Question Dell Studio 15 - overheating

I've been having a bit of a problem with my laptop over the past few months now. Often when I play high spec games like Assassin's Creed my laptop will last less than an hour before it shuts itself down without warning. More recently it did it a couple of times when playing a half-life 1 mod . I'm guessing it's an overheating problem, prolly not helped by dust, so gonna get my hands on a can of compressed air. But is there any way I can monitor my laptops internal temperature or something?

I had a similar problem with my old laptop and paid £40 for some knobends to do bugger all to it for two weeks and get it back in exactly the same condition, so not jumping at the chance to take this one in for a checkup.

I use Coretemp HWMonitor AND Speedfan to deal with my system temp monitoring/fan control. Check those out and let me know your system specs + temps you get, I'll let you know if that'l the issue (hopefully)

OK, cheers. I tried them out when working (just Microsoft word and Firefox open) and after playing HL2 for about an hour.

    HW Monitor (work):

    Hardware monitor ACPI
    Temperature 0 44°C (111°F) [0xC64] (TZ00)
    Temperature 1 45°C (112°F) [0xC6E] (TZ01)
    Temperature 2 48°C (118°F) [0xC8C] (TZ02)
Hardware monitor Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8600
    Temperature 0 34°C (93°F) [0x42] (Core #0)

    Hardware monitor ST9320325AS
    Temperature 0 39°C (102°F) [0x27] (Assembly)
    Temperature 2 39°C (102°F) [0x27] (Air Flow)
    Hardware monitor Battery 1
    Voltage 0 12.53 Volts [0x30F5] (Current Voltage)
    Capacity 0 5200 mWh [0x1450] (Designed Capacity)
Capacity 1 4460 mWh [0x116C] (Full Charge Capacity)
    Capacity 2 4460 mWh [0x116C] (Current Capacity)
    Level 0 14 pc [0x55] (Wear Level)
    Level 1 100 pc [0x64] (Charge Level)
    HW Monitor (HL2):

    Hardware monitor ACPI
    Temperature 0 56°C (132°F) [0xCDC] (TZ00)
    Temperature 1 63°C (145°F) [0xD22] (TZ01)
