New Graphix card

A mate of mine is looking inton getting a new graphix card for his computer so he can run CSS at more than 8fps (yes 8 fps, i know

) and was wondering what he could get for quite a low price, around 70-100 pounds?

His spec is:
-2.8 gig processor, puts out 2.53
-512 megabites of RAM
-"gaming processor"

any help appreciated

#1 he should get more ram

#2 if his mobo supports PCI-E i would suggest a Radeon x800 GTO (or GTO2) for an excellent low priced card

X800 GTO or GeForce 6600GT both on sale for this week at the above link. Both will play modern games with ease. I've got a 6600GT and have never had any trouble from it, even when I shorted my PC out by idiotically trying to plug the card in while the PC was turned on during some routine maintenance.

how much more RAM do you think he needs breaker?

if he gets the X800 GTO and 1Gig of RAM should that be enough?

He needs at least 1 gig overall, as low latency as his motherboard will take. Remember that the memory will work at the latency of the slowest RAM chip, so he needs to make sure he upgrades his current chips if they are slow.

512mb is enough tbh, my mates run it on that and it runs the same as mine pretty much

ive got 756mb of ram and a 20£ gfx card, source is more processor heavy, id buy a gig stick of ram (or another 512 depending on how rich hes feeling) and buy a half decent gfx card i wouldnt spend any more than 100 quid on it ;P

my grafix card was a £40 radeon jobbie, runs source fine with 512 ram

using 1024 mb ram
using agp 6600gt

not too unhappy with source results, not too happy either

yes source is cpu heavy, but his currently cpu isn't the problem.

and for those who said 512mb is enough to play, yes it is, so was my GF4

But getting 1GB will increase that FPS and help out your pc alot, especially if it is a single, fast stick

Yeah a Gig makes the computer run ALOT faster, and you connect to servers faster too

Im running a Dual 512mb ram (1gb really) and a 5200, works fine for me.

3.06 ghz dual 512 mb ram runs sweet as ever again after getting a new gfx card

w00t pwned pwned luce of dM the 2nd best dutch clan on their server just now, well ok didnt pwn him but got him 7 out of ten times we met
